Fights bacteria and fungi. Studies have shown that oil of oregano is an effective antimicrobial agent against various bacteria and fungi, including Candida. It has shown promise for use as a disinfectant and food preservative.

Reduces inflammation. The compound carvacrol has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in some studies. It is believed to work by interfering with inflammatory mediators.

Lowers cholesterol. In one clinical study, taking oil of oregano after meals for three months was shown to reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol and increase HDL ("good") cholesterol in people with high cholesterol.

Supports gut health. Oil of oregano has been used to treat small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and can kill certain intestinal parasites. By helping to balance gut flora, it may promote smoother digestion and better nutrient absorption.

Provides antioxidant support. Oregano oil contains antioxidants that can help fight free radical damage in the body. While laboratory studies have shown strong antioxidant activity, more research is needed on its effects in humans.
